Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring Summer 2012

Christian Dior’s Spring Summer couture collection (Bill Gaytten’s second couture collection for Dior) was oh so 50’s, full of cinched in waists, pencil skirts, full volume a-line skirts and dresses, va-va-voom gowns and super high heels. The collection seemed to be quite the toned-down affair to what a Dior couture show usually is, somewhat of that might have been down to the idea behind the collection- seeing things in X-ray, seeing Dior in X-ray. There was almost an unfinished look to the clothes, which added to the beauty of them with sheer layers exposing the underlying construction of garments. Evening dresses in silk, gauze and chiffon some sprinkled with crystals added an understated dash of glam, maybe for some looks there could have been a little more. Colour palette was black, grey, white with a burst of red and plum here and there. All in all it was a beautiful collection with a romantic simplicity to it, but I think it missed that magic and fantasy that Galliano never failed to bring for years before. Highlight looks from the collection.
